NEBRASKA AGRI-BUSINESS ASSOCIATION'S
DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING

Effective January 1, 1996 Federal Law requires all firms that employ drivers of commercial vehicles, to have a drug AND alcohol testing program in place. The program must consist of a written procedure on how the firm will implement drug and alcohol testing for their employees. Who must be tested? All agri-business employees, full-time, part-time and seasonal, driving commercial vehicles which require a CDL licenses.

Commercial vehicles are defined in law as:

  • Over 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating, or
  • Any vehicle transporting hazardous materials that require placarding.

To help retailers comply with the extensive and complex drug and alcohol testing regulations, Nebraska Agri-Business Association in cooperation with MN Crop Production Retailers (MCPR), has put together a group program through a Federal DOT certified provider. This service is another wonderful membership benefit.

THE PROGRAM INCLUDES:
A usable drug and alcohol testing policy statement.
Supervisor training opportunities
EAP program which meets the employee and supervisor training requirements.
Drug testing kits and chain of custody forms.
Medical Review Officer (MRO) oversight.
Blind sample compliance and quality control compliance.
Random, pre-employment, post-accident and periodic tests.
Monthly and annual statistical information compliance.

ENROLLMENT
The cost to enroll in the program is a $50.00 one-time charge, for members of Nebraska Agri-Business Association. This charge includes the training materials for employees and supervisors, as well as written sample drug testing policy. A backup record is maintained of all required monthly and annual reports. The cost of a drug testing kit is $35.00 per test completed. This includes everything except the collection of the sample, which you will pay directly to the collection site.

Along with this are enrollment and release forms for your use, please put the release form on your company letterhead.
